Lung Cancer and its types

When you smoke cigarettes, the one thing that automatically gets affected is our lung. The lung is one of the most important parts inside our bodies; it is a part of our respiratory system which is deemed responsible for our breathing. Our lung may also suffer from other kind of conditions such as emphysema or Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease or COPD, but the worst that you can get is lung cancer.

Lung cancer is a condition where the cells grow abnormally and uncontrollable, this usually begins in or around the lungs. You see, the lungs are naturally programmed to function in a definite way or appear in a certain structure and it is composed of cells that instigates either growth promotion, or growth suppression. Just like any other organ inside our body, the lung performs internal or external changes within the body. When the bodies being programmed to execute these changes properly, and the cells become damaged.

There are two different types of lung cancer: small cell and non-small cell lung cancers. The treatment for each type of cancer is different simply because these conditions are different from each other as well.

Small Cell Lung Cancer

According to the National Cancer Institute, or NCI, small cell lung cancer is deemed to be the type of cancer which has a fast and aggressive growth. Another name for small cell lung cancer is oat cell carcinoma, and most of the people who are diagnosed with this kind of cancer are smokers and non-smokers are rarely diagnosed with small cell lung cancer. The most important thing that one has to keep in mind regarding small cell lung cancer is that it has the tendency to metastasize swiftly. So, early detection is very essential.

Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer

 Studies show that out of 100 sufferers of lung cancers, 80 percent of those are non-small cell lung cancer. There are three major kinds of non-small cell lung cancer: these are squamous cell carcinoma, large cell carcinoma and adenocarcinoma. Squamous cell carcinoma also known as epidermoid carcinomas which is usually found in the bronchi and chest cavity, it is a case that becomes prevalent when it has already surpassed andenocarcinoma. Andenocarcinoma is the type of lung cancer that’s widespread for the most part while large cell carcinoma is the least common of all non small cell lung cancers.

Lung cancer is the most terrifying of all the diseases out there. These kinds of lung conditions are ones that you wouldn’t want to have not even in your wildest dreams. The best thing to do to prevent getting these kind of maladies is to quit smoking as early as you can, that way you wouldn’t have to suffer from these ailments in the future.
